What's On?

Prevent, Restore, Recover

This year’s theme, Prevent, Restore, Recover, signals the need to prevent weeds from establishing in new areas and manage existing ones. The need for on-ground action to prevent infestations and help restore the landscape is more important than ever. In 2011, Weedbuster Week also acknowledges the recovery efforts the many groups and individuals have made in restoring the landscape following these exceptional weather events.

After one of the wettest years on record, on-ground action is needed like never before.

You can help by running an activity or event in your local area. See below for some ways to get involved. By hosting or participating in Weedbusters, we are helping combat weeds and protecting our environment, our agricultural assets, and our way of life.

What is Weedbusters? Weedbusters is a program that assists groups and communities to increase involvement in managing weeds as part of broader land management. Through Weedbusters, groups and organisations can highlight a weeds issue and generate interest in weeds / land management. Weedbuster Week is held annually in September to increase participation in weeds and land management and raise awareness about weed issues.

Activities/eventsA range of events under the banner of Weedbusters happen every year, including on-ground activities, such as weeding and tree planting, as well as weed displays, field days, demonstrations, weeds identification workshops, and guest speakers.

Recognition Weedbusters is also about recognising the achievements of groups and individuals who manage weeds, and by doing so, help protect Australia's unique natural environment.

Who gets involved? Landcare groups as well as state and local government, schools and other conservation / not-for-profit groups host Weedbuster events in their local community each year. If your group hasn’t been involved before, consider registering a Weedbuster event to highlight a local weeds issue or to increase group membership or participation.

Please contact your State Weedbuster Coordinator for further information.
